Many local codes are beginning to require fall prevention devices for operable windows that are relatively high above the outside finish grade. The intent is to keep people from falling out through an opened window.
ASTM F2090-10 is the Standard Specification for Window Fall Prevention Devices with Emergency Escape (Egress) Release Mechanisms.
ASTM F2090 defines three methods for all protection:
Window Opening Control Devices (WOCDs) are mechanisms that limit the ability of an operable window to vent far enough for a person to fall out the window yet may be easily disengaged to allow escape in an emergency. These devices must also self-engage after reclosing. (For technical requirements refer to ASTM F2090-10).

Windsor will begin offering Window Opening Control Devices (WOCDs) for jobsite installation on new construction projects. These mechanisms will also be available for retrofitting products already in the field. We are currently developing a factory-applied solution for future applications.
