For many people, the holiday season is filled with time-honored traditions; and this is also the case for the employees at our Monroe, North Carolina plant. One highly anticipated tradition is the arrival of their annual ‘Elf in the Plant’ and ‘North Carolina Lion.’
For one week prior to the holidays, the elf and the lion make a daily appearance at the North Carolina production facility. Employees can find them hanging out in inconspicuous areas of the plant just waiting to be spotted. They have been seen beside the time clock, next to the eye-wash station, on the employee photo board and in numerous other areas noted for their importance to our safety. This year, the crazy duo took a picture of themselves in a work area and then put it in the spot designated for the winner of the December Difference Maker award. Fortunately, the ornery pair were caught before any recognitions were given out!
Human Resources uses this opportunity every year to highlight safety concerns throughout the plant. Seeing the elf and the lion in these areas is a good way to draw attention to the importance of safety and keep the issue in the forefront of our employees’ minds. At the end of the fun-filled week, each employee is given the opportunity to document where they spotted the dynamite duo each day and then a drawing is held to select a lucky winner. On Monday, December 13th, Tania Florez, won a gift card for correctly naming all the hiding locations for the elf and lion. For now, the two characters have made their way back to the North Pole and the North Carolina employees will look forward to seeing them again in 2022!
