We recently learned of an incredible fundraising effort by our distributors in Memphis, Tennessee. Richard and Amee Cooper, and the employees at Maximus Building Supply, have been deeply involved in supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Based in Memphis, St. Jude provides world-class care for critically ill children.
St. Jude started the Dream Home Project in 1991 to raise money to find a cure to end childhood cancer. For the last 25 years, local companies in the Memphis area have joined in the mission to build these dream homes. This year, Southern Serenity Homes and Maximus Building Supply took on the challenge to help frame the entire home in only 25 hours over a three-day period. Richard himself took on the responsibility of coordinating the placement and movement of all the materials to meet this challenge.
The people at Maximus Building Supply have a strong commitment to supporting St. Jude because one of their own has experienced the loss of a child. In 2015, Michael, the vice president of operations at Maximus, and his wife Paula, lost their nine-year-old daughter, Carson Elizabeth, to a rare childhood cancer. It started as knee pain that they originally thought was due to normal childhood activities. But after receiving X-rays and MRIs, it was determined that Carson would need immediate treatment at St. Jude for osteosarcoma. Carson fought bravely but lost her battle 16 months later.
Their love for their daughter, Carson, is the reason that Michael and Paula will forever support St. Jude and the wonderful people who work there. Together, they have raised over one million dollars for the hospital in memory of their daughter. They continue to do everything within their power to make sure other families do not have to deal with the tragedy they endured.
We commend Maximus Building Supply and Michael and Paula’s ongoing efforts to eradicate childhood cancer. Windsor is proud to partner with these dedicated individuals and support their efforts toward meeting their admirable goal.
