In the historic coastal town of Guilford, Connecticut, there are many intriguing buildings that were built in the late 1700s and early 1800s. But a very special two-story structure with an interesting past was selected for a complete renovation with an impressive outcome. This unique building that was originally built in 1813 has been completely restored. It now provides a combination of functional business space and luxurious executive housing. Windsor’s windows and doors were selected to enhance this vintage building resulting in a contemporary masterpiece combining old world charm and new-age utilitarianism.
Pinnacle clad casement and Legend HBR double hung windows created continuity between the two different elevations. The two exterior materials of brick and siding were unified by the colors of the exterior cladding on the windows and doors. Windsor’s wide variety of paint shades allowed the architect a great deal of creative freedom. Cladding colors in Brick Red, Charcoal Gray and Sunflower were selected to create a harmonious result with environmental appeal. Outswing doors instilled a sense of openness to the living spaces. And the fixed windows provided a modern, uninterrupted look of simplicity providing the perfect contrast to the old-world architecture.
Product performance, choice of options and cladding colors, as well as a variety of window options were just a few of the reasons that Windsor was selected for this interesting challenge. Whether it’s for your next custom home or for a historic renovation project, at Windsor Windows & Doors, we enjoy helping you find the perfect solution.
