The Iowa Games have been held over the past several weeks in the state and two of Windsor employees have earned impressive achievements in these competitive events.
Guy Hall received a gold medal for Power Lifting in the 275 lb. weight division, with a bench press of 350 lbs. Guy has worked in Windsor’s warehouse and glass production department for 7 1/2 years but he was a combat engineer in the service when he was younger man. It was there that he learned the benefits of staying in shape and working out. As he reached middle age, he developed high blood pressure and recognized the need to get himself in better condition so he began lifting weights. His blood pressure is now under control and he takes pride in maintaining optimal health.
Brenda Copley participated in sweep rowing in three masters divisions; the women’s 8+, the women’s 4+ and the mixed 8+. Brenda has served Windsor as a Special Projects Manager for the past 6 years. Her teams received two gold medals and a silver medal. Brenda grew up in Michigan, which instilled a love for water-related activities. She enjoys competition as well as the camaraderie of a team, so rowing seemed like a perfect fit. She has been a member of the rowing team for 3 years and she learned an amazing fact about rowing: a 3-mile head race expends the same amount of energy as playing three consecutive basketball games.
The Iowa Games were originally developed as an event where weekend athletes, school children and senior citizens could enjoy performing and competing in a statewide Olympic-style event. The original games were started in 1987 and were held over a single weekend in August. For the initial event, there were 16 sport activities and 7,100 participants. The Iowa Games have exploded in popularity and now consist of two sessions that span several weeks in both the summer and winter months; the summer session features 50 sports and 15,000 participants and the winter session offers 19 sports with over 4,000 participants.
Windsor commends Guy and Brenda for their dedication and athletic accomplishments.
