Featured Builder: Timber Ridge Homes - Tim Stolp, President
Distributor: Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber Company
Tim Stolp grew up in Jackson, Minnesota, but made his home in West Des Moines, Iowa, in 1976. He began his career as an electrician in 1980 after graduating from high school. He eventually became a project manager for Wolin Mechanical/Electrical, located in West Des Moines. Wolin is a full design-build contractor serving commercial and industrial clients throughout Iowa. With his extensive knowledge of the design-build process, along with his experience in both the mechanical and electrical requirements, Tim was well versed in many aspects of the construction process.
Tim married his wife Heidi and they now have two children: Dylan, 17, and Hanna, 14. In 1999, he and Heidi built their first home. They enjoyed the residential building process so much that they dreamed of one day making it a family business.
In 2002, the Stolps formed a residential construction business called Timber Ridge Homes. This husband and wife team loved the process of creating something from the ground up. Tim’s previous work experience prepared him from a technical standpoint and Heidi’s love of interior decorating made her a valuable asset. However, both Tim and Heidi soon learned there were many other challenges to running their own business. Tim’s previous 40-hour work week was replaced by a 10- to 12-hour workday nearly every day of the week. For Heidi, every waking minute is now a balance between raising their teenage children and growing their business.
Tim admits owning his own business has been a challenge over the past few years due to the long hours, overall slowing of the economy and the ability to acquire financing for residential construction. However, he and Heidi recognize how fortunate they are to live their dream. They are grateful for the company they have built together and reap the rewards with the completion of each home when they see the appreciation of their satisfied home-owners.
Timber Ridge Homes has prospered over the past decade and currently employs 4 full-time employees and 2 part-time employees. They’re focused on creating custom features for the move-up buyer. Tim and Heidi take great pride in the details they put into every home they build and are particularly proud of this year’s Greater Des Moines Home Builders Association HomeShowExpo project that won “Best of Show.”
Tim utilized Windsor’s Next Dimension Signature product in this winning home. The Signature product was chosen because Tim felt it was excellent quality and the best value for the money. He’s experienced past success with Signature windows and appreciates the fact that they are manufactured locally. We salute Tim and Heidi Stolp’s attention to detail and dedication to perfecting their craft.
Windsor recognizes our Iowa distributor, Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber, for providing excellent customer service to Timber Ridge. It’s that high level of service that creates loyal Windsor customers.

(At the time of this photograph, Heidi and her mother were cleaning and landscaping the HomeShow Expo project as they prepared for the final weekend of the show. Temperatures hovered near 100 degrees and she was outfitted in a T-shirt and shorts. As a result, she declined to be photographed. However, Tim wanted to give his better-half the acknowledgement she deserves. He said Heidi is equally responsible for their company’s success.)
