Pinnacle wood windows chosen for showcase home to be featured in print and summer public tours
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Windsor Windows will provide gracious views for the 2010 Louisiana Southern Living Idea House now being built in the booming North Shore area outside New Orleans.

Windsor was selected as window supplier for the popular project, one of two 2010 Idea Houses to be featured in the August issue of lifestyle and entertaining magazine Southern Living. Local luxury homebuilder Miller Building Co. Inc. is racing to complete the house in time for publication photography and the June 12 start of public tours. Through Sept. 12, organizers expect up to 30,000 tourists from all over the United States to visit the Louisiana Idea House for design tips and decorating ideas to express the warmth and casual elegance of the Southern lifestyle.

The Louisiana project is located in TerraBella Village, a Traditional Neighborhood Development in Covington, St. Tammany Parish. Traditional Neighborhoods are motivated by a New Urbanist philosophy that mixes homes, parks and services so all daily needs are within a convenient walk. Half of TerraBella is wetland preserve, so these Windsor Windows will frame spectacular views from this showcase home.

Bayou Bend, as the Idea House project has been dubbed, is a unique “gumbo” of Creole and Craftsman style. The house was designed by Michael A. Piazza of Piazza Architecture Planning an award-winning firm in Mandeville, La., known for integrating historical details with modernist expression and contemporary lines. Its quaint design is inspired by turn-of-the-century coastal cottages found in small towns throughout this part of Louisiana.

Windsor Windows help define Bayou Bend’s Classical style with formal placement on the façade of the two-story home. Pinnacle Series Tan Clad Double Hung windows with 7/8-inch simulated divided lite grilles are evenly positioned on the cottage front. To the rear, more than a dozen smaller Windsor Windows look out over a detached two-car garage with a carriage house-style living space and tall Southern pines.

The family-owned Miller Building Co. in Metairie, La., selected Windsor Windows as the window supplier for their local Idea House construction. “Miller Building’s reputation around New Orleans for a high level of craftsmanship made it an honor to align with them on this project,” said Mike Crook, Windsor Windows regional sales manager in Monroe, N.C.

Bayou Bend’s upcoming three-month run as a tourist attraction adds to its status as an important showcase for Windsor products, Crook added. “Some Southern Living readers say no summer would be complete without a visit to the magazine’s Idea Houses,” he said. “This program brings the magazine pages to life. Tours give people an up-close look at how Windsor Windows provides architectural style, low maintenance and energy efficiency for today’s active lifestyle.”

A dedicated Web site for the Idea House with photos of Bayou Bend is updated regularly at: www.southernliving.com/ideahouse. Tickets for this summer’s public tours cost $5 and are available in advance at www.jlgc.net, the Web site of the Junior League of Greater Covington, which will benefit from a portion of the proceeds on behalf of its signature project, The Children’s Museum of St. Tammany.
