The Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity has helped transition 180 hard-working qualified families in to homeownership over their 26 year history. Constructing new homes, rehabilitating existing structures, as well as coordinating neighborhood revitalization projects contributes to ending the cycle of poverty for many families in the Des Moines area.
Windsor has committed to organizing an employee volunteer effort each spring and fall. On May 23rd and May 31st of 2013, twenty four Windsor employees volunteered their time and building expertise at three home sites on the east side of Des Moines. By partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Windsor provides families with a home they can call their own. This gives these families an opportunity to create a place to grow and thrive and contribute to their community.
In addition to volunteering its workforce, Windsor has donated vinyl windows and doors for over 125 Habitat projects in Central Iowa communities over the past 9 years. Approximately 12-15 homes each year are outfitted with windows and doors through these donations.
In 2013, Habitat plans to move nearly 30 families into home ownership and will also provide minor repair and exterior beautification to an additional 80 homes through their “Rock the Block” activity. These efforts are designed to motivate entire neighborhoods to beautify their community. The Greater Des Moines Habitat’s focus, with the support from Windsor Windows & Doors, is to end the cycle of poverty for these deserving families and to create positive change to the community.
