Nestled deep in the hills of the Utah Valley sits a very special modern farmhouse that looks like it has been there for 100 years. With the traditional red brick exterior and beadboard siding, it’s difficult to distinguish when this home was constructed and that’s precisely what builder Kory Robison was trying to achieve. Kory and the homeowners set out to design and build a home where the age of the structure couldn’t be determined by the design of the exterior. They wanted to accomplish this while maintaining a very open and modern interior layout. Robison Custom Homes takes great pride in building custom homes that reflect the unique tastes and personality of their homeowners.
Robison partnered with Think Architecture and Epic Windows + Doors to create this one-of-a-kind home. They elected to use black clad Pinnacle casement windows and large direct-set picture windows with black painted interiors. The large floor to ceiling windows in the home accentuate the vast amount of natural light, making the space feel very open and bright. The rear elevation of the home includes a patio featuring a large pool and entertainment area. Four sets of in-swing French doors provide access to this serene exterior setting.
The interior of the home incorporates several unique architectural details. One of the first things you will notice is the lack of casing applied to the interior of the windows; the sheetrock turns into the window well and butts up directly to the window frame. This clean and simple installation method provides a minimalistic impression. The designers also installed interior window walls that simulate the appearance of the Pinnacle direct set windows. The result is a stunning mix of materials and textures. The interior windows also provide site-lines to every area of the living space, giving the interior a very modern feel.
When asked what his favorite part of this collaboration was, Kory responded, “I love the natural environment around this project. The views are stunning and the natural creeks that wind through the property provide that soothing sound of running water. Our goal was to design and build a home that complemented this incredible piece of land.”
The entire design team did a commendable job of ensuring that the interior and exterior design elements enhance the natural beauty of this landscape.
