The Windsor manufacturing facility has undergone many changes and we continue to evolve our layout for improved efficiency.
Most recently, the entire Specials department - which is devoted to producing all non-rectangular shaped windows - went through a complete layout reevaluation and rearrangement of the area. Processes were combined; equipment was rearranged and placed inline to accommodate individual work cells. Large flip tables have been incorporated to safely handle the increasing number of orders for larger dimensions. This improvement will allow the Specials department to increase capacity in the coming year.
Our raw inventory warehouse is also undergoing change. Previously, the majority of the material was stored in the actual warehouse with many satellite locations sprinkled around the plant. To better track inventory and improve flow to the production lines, we are changing this arrangement so materials are stored in one location and all common SKUs are stored in the same area. This is a very large undertaking that will require significant resources. Reorganization of our warehouse will be completed in late fall.
In the not too distant future, Windsor will undergo more changes on the factory floor to improve product flow and increase capacity. Soon we will enlarge the size and output of our grille area to meet the increasing demand for simulated divided lites.
Final plans are also under review for revising the patio door production area. This revised layout will better utilize equipment and resources within our Pinnacle and Ashworth door departments.
Change is never-ending in the manufacturing world. To stay ahead of the competition, change needs to be encouraged and embraced.
